Parasitic architecture can be defined as an adaptable, transient and exploitive form of architecture that forces relationships with host buildings in order to complete themselves. Parasites cannot sustain their own existence without siphoning energy from the surplus supply demonstrated in host buildings. This website seeks to explore three latent characterisitcs of parasitic architecture exposed during my undergraduate dissertation. Whilst simultaneously, through this process of exploration, aiming to localize the subject of parasitic architecture into a single available resource. The intention is that this manifesto will provide an extensive foundation from which to promote and potentially extend this fascinating subject field.
This body of work is composed of threads, not chapters, and is circumnavigated using a sitecloud, as opposed to an index. The work itself has been integrated within the form of a website, instead of a traditional printed thesis, to represent the theory of constant flux and dynamism associated with the topic of parasitic architecture. The sitecloud has been strategically organised to describe the content of the website in a format that does not prescribe the route in which the viewer must take through this body of work.
